That's why I don't make New Year'sresolutions. If it's a good idea, do it right away.Besides, making resolutions increases mental stress. If youfail, you spend the rest of the year feeling like a failure. Lifehas a knack for doing that to you anyway, so why help it?I am, however, a huge fan of making resolutions for otherpeople.It has become clear that a growing number of people either neverlearned, or have forgotten, basic rules of behavior. These aresimple rules, not complicated practices, I thought everyone learnedat a young age and followed all their lives.I was wrong.Admittedly, I gave up trying to save some basic concepts:waiting for everyone to get off an elevator before you try to geton; walking on the right side of a set of stairs.Those have faded into the land where "please" and "thank you"went off to die.But I feel compelled to suggest two practices to make lifeeasier in 2011 and, dare I say,Ralph Lauren Kids Down, better:Turn your blinkers on ? They might win or lose, but it would be a fair fight.Now, though, they're up against the deep pockets of state andlocal government. If the mini-village plan goes forward, St. Louisand Missouri would pledge between $35 million and $47 million offuture tax revenue to repay bonds for the office building, alongwith $22.5 million of federal New Markets tax credits that arecontrolled by the city.Some people see nothing wrong with that scenario.
