The plastic tiesholding them down also had been cut."Kids would have just ripped them out of the ground," Cooneysaid. "(The thieves) have to have had cutting tools to get (thecharacters) out. They were clever about it. These were people whocame prepared."Tom Cooney said everyone is hoping the characters will bereturned. The 2008 draft also delivered startingoffensive tackle Sam Baker and starting linebacker Curtis Lofton.(And other goodies.) Next, Dimitroff made an aggressive move tosign free-agent running back Michael Turner. He trimmed the excessfrom the roster. He made the Falcons younger, faster andhungrier.Atlanta stunned the NFL in 2008 by going 11-5 and busting intothe playoffs. Smith was voted NFL coach of the year. Before this season, Dimitroff madeanother substantial free-agent move, plucking cornerback DuntaRobinson away from Houston.
