AUSTRALIA. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a new seven-year duty free contract at its International Terminal.

The new duty free arrangements are part of a major redevelopment of the Brisbane International Terminal. The incumbent duty free retailer is The Nuance Group Australia. Other companies likely to contest the tender would include LS travel retail,louboutins, JR/Duty Free and Heinemann Asia Pacific.

Appropriately experienced companies that wish to participate in the core duty free Request for Proposal (RFP) process will be asked to qualify by providing the information requested in the EOI documentation.

Speaking exclusively to The Moodie Report at Brisbane Airport, BAC General Manager Terminal Retail and Commercial Andrew Brodie confirmed that the EOI will open on 18 February 2013 and close on 1 March 2013.

The process will allow BAC to select duty free retailers that have a strong track record in executing high quality concessions and can demonstrate an understanding of the Australian duty free market to participate in the RFP stage, he said.

The respondents will be notified of the outcome of the EOI in the first week of March with the RFP period to follow shortly after. It is anticipated that this process will be complete by August 2013 to allow the successful operator to work with BAC to develop the tenancy for opening on 1 September 2014.

A separate RFP will also be released during the duty free process for a specialty retail watch concession. The RFP documentation is expected to be released in late March 2013.

?It has been over 15 years since Brisbane Airport last offered the duty free concession to the market so this really is a unique long-term offer for the successful retailer,? Brodie said.

BAC developed the blueprint for its airside renovation with The Design Solution, the UK?s leading airport retail design firm, and The S-A-P Group, a specialist airport retailing planning consultant from Asia and the US (which is also The Moodie Report's partner in publishing the annual Airport Commercial Revenue Study).


FOSTERING A SENSE OF BRISBANE

Plans for the redevelopment of the International Terminal have gained momentum with BAC also announcing Brisbane architectural company Richards and Spence as the successful theming partner to deliver the transformation of the retail areas.

Richards and Spence is collaborating with art consultants mc/k ART, and Melbourne creative agency Right Angle Studio. Arkhefield, a leading Queensland architecture and interior design practice, will work with Richards and Spence as the lead consulting architectural firm on the project.
